I have always been a huge fan of anything coconut, but recently I discovered the amazing benefits of coconut oil. In the past, I would only really use it for cooking because I loved the scent and the taste. But I discovered a new world where I can use coconut oil for pretty much everything.
I want to share some of the different uses that I’ve recently tried with coconut oil. One of my favorites is making homemade body scrubs with coconut oil. I recently tried one with sugar and coconut oil and scrubbed down in the shower one night. It felt absolutely AMAZING and it left my skin feeling so refreshed and hydrated. The body scrub also promotes good circulation when you’re rubbing it into your skin; not to mention leaving you smelling amazing!
I also noticed that coconut oil is a GREAT makeup remover. Just after one night of using it, I actually found that my skin was a lot softer, less broken out, and my makeup application was a lot smoother. Because I am still not completely used to it, I just rubbed it around my face and rinsed it off, then used a bar of unscented Dove soap to just get that oily feeling off my face. I didn’t even have to use a moisturizer afterwards because my skin felt so hydrated. I heard too that coconut oil is great for keeping your hair hydrated and shiny. I have not tried this yet but am curious. I am planning to find a DIY hair mask with coconut oil to try this weekend.
I still love to cook with coconut oil. Anytime I need to use oil, I always try to use coconut oil because I love the taste and not to mention it gives foods a little different flavor. It’s light and not overbearing. Since living on the island, I’ve really been able to incorporate it into my cooking because it’s EVERYwhere in stores (all-natural) and also very inexpensive. I love using it as a butter substitute to add a different kind of flavor to different recipes, especially in cookies/other baked goods.
Not only does it make foods taste great, it’s also great for heart health because “it contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in actively preventing various heart problems like high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure” (see link source below). Coconut oil also does not raise LDL levels, which helps keep cholesterol levels at bay. Promoting heart health is one of the many health benefits that coconut oil has on different organs in the body.
